- Pulmonologist and Covid-19 Consultant for the NCRHA, Dr. Sana Mohammed spoke on “Long Covid” and stated that the term referred to the persistence of symptoms 3 weeks after the initial onset of Covid-19 symptoms.
- Dr. Mohammed indicated that “Long Covid” has been observed to not only affect older persons who had severe Covid-19 symptoms but those who had mild or moderate symptoms across ALL age groups. The Doctor also stated that the two major “Long Covid” symptoms are persistent Fatigue and Shortness of Breath with Joint and Chest Pain being observed as well.
- Dr Mohammed also went into some detail about the long term health consequences of Covid-19 infection and indicated that apart from the general symptoms, specific organ involvement has also been observed. The Doctor listed these consequences, which are as follows:
- Inflammation of the Heart
- Irregular Heartbeat
- Abnormal Lung Function Tests with decreased capacity for Oxygen being observed
- Headache
- Vertigo
- Loss of taste and smell
- Strokes and Seizures
- Mood Changes
- Malaise and Exhaustion
- Greater risk of Depression and Anxiety
